About SCHSB

Learn about SCHSB

St. Croix Hair Sheep Breeders, Inc. (SCHSB) is a 501(c)5 nonprofit organization formed in 2011 in the state of Oregon. The central mission of SCHSB is to protect the future of St. Croix Sheep through preservation, promotion, development of performance characteristics, and supplying registration solutions. The organization has about 160 active members in 2023. The herd book includes over 17,800 sheep recorded through the years, with nearly 1,500 of them alive and productive in active member flocks.

Purpose of the St. Croix Hair Sheep Breeders (SCHSB)

  • To maintain a central organization to register and promote the St. Croix breed of sheep
  • To support new members as they learn about St. Croix sheep and develop sheep production skills
  • To engage in special projects that increase knowledge about the unique qualities of St. Croix sheep
  • To facilitate communication among St. Croix owners, breeders, and commercial producers

SCHSB encourages members to produce robust, well-built, high-performance animals that thrive in a variety of management styles and environments. While some of our member-producers prefer all white and polled sheep, most focus on performance and ignore color and scurs.
